Mel Brooks Gets Honored In Hollywood

Misc.
Some of the biggest names in comedy came out to honor Mel Brooks at "The Recording Academy" of Los Angeles. Brooks, who is best known for creating the TV series "Get Smart" as well as a string of hit comedic films including Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs, and The Producers, claims that he is "the only Jew that made a living from Hitler!" thanks to the song "Springtime for Hitler" from The Producers.

Among the celebrities in attendance were Norm Macdonald, Tim Meadows (aka The Ladies' Man), Maya Rudolph, Jason Biggs, and Bruce Vilanch. When asked by Biggs, "Are you wondering what the hell I'm doing up here right now?" Brooks replied, "No no...I'm one of the few people who think that you're talented." That's quite a compliment coming from Mel Brooks. Who knows, maybe they'll make another American Pie movie so we can all remember why Jason Biggs became famous in the first place.

The biggest buzz of the evening swirled around Blazing Saddles becoming a Broadway musical. If Bruce Vilanch gets his wish, he'll be the first to audition for the infamous farting scene.

In other Mel Brooks news, his famed television series “Get Smart” will be hitting a movie theatre near you. The film opens in theatres on June 20, 2008 and will star Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway.
